Mary Montag, science teacher
STA was selected to participate in the 2008 School Chemical Cleanout Project. Mary completed a grant packet and qualified STA for financial assistance to dispose of unwanted or expired chemicals. These chemicals were disposed of in late September. Because of Mary's efforts, we are commended by the State of Missouri Department of Natural Resources for making our educational institution a safer place to learn and teach.
Pat Dunlay, English teacher
Pat Dunlay, English teacher, spent a week in Louisville, KY, last June scoring and evaluating student AP exams. She was one of only 800 high school and college teachers chosen from across the country.
Eric Thomas named Missouri Journalism Teacher of the Year for 2008
The Missouri Interscholastic Press Association named St. Teresa's Academy teacher Eric Thomas as the Missouri Journalism Teacher of the Year for 2008. The award ceremony was scheduled for April 24 as part of Journalism Day on the campus of the University of Missouri--Columbia. Thomas advises the Teresian yearbook and Dart newspaper for the all-girls Catholic school in midtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Thomas has been a teacher at St. Teresa's since 2002. The student newspaper and yearbook have won various national and state awards in the past six years, including Pacemaker finalist from the National Scholastic Press Association and All-Missouri from the Missouri Interscholastic Press Association.
Thomas is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and the University of Missouri School of Education's master's degree program.
