Basketball Team to Host Pink Zone Game Feb. 16
Did you know that breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer among women in the U.S. accounting for nearly one out of every three cancers diagnosed? Let’s reach beyond the court and into our schools and communities to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Whether you wear a pink ribbon, a pink t‐shirt, make a donation or hand out flyers, the importance comes in the awareness you create. So get your pink ready today! Join the St. Teresa’s Basketball Team as they host Spring Hill High School at STA on Tuesday, February 16 for the 2010 WBCA Pink Zone event. Let’s all be a part of finding an answer.
As a part of the Pink Zone event, students and teachers are encouraged to wear Pink to school at to the game next Tuesday. For a $1 donation towards breast cancer awareness, students will be able to dress in pink out of uniform and will receive a pink ribbon to wear to show your support for the cause. WEAR PINK NEXT TUESDAY!
In addition, there will be raffles, giveaways, and important information distributed during the basketball game on February 16. Please come out and wear your pink while the Stars play in pink uniforms in support of a great cause!
2009-10 Varsity Basketball Schedule
HEAD COACH DOUG NELSON:
St. Teresa’s Academy is excited to announce Doug Nelson as the new head basketball coach for the 2009-10 season. Coach Nelson joins the STA community with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Colorado and MA in Physical Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He brings a wealth of experience in athletics and physical education, as a teacher, coach, administrator and athletic trainer.
He served as head girls’ basketball coach at schools in Arizona and New Mexico before moving to Winfield, Kansas where he coached the varsity girls’ basketball team and taught physical education and history. Coach Nelson has also been the head women’s basketball coach at Baker University, and assistant women’s basketball coach at Rockhurst University, Missouri Western State College, and Johnson County Community College. In addition to basketball, Coach Nelson has experience coaching softball, swimming, cross country, water polo, baseball, football, and track and field.
Coach Nelson has developed basketball teams known for maximizing players’ strengths, making good decisions, being in superb condition and playing with class. He has extensive experience from both sides of the college recruiting process, and will be a valuable asset for athletes at St. Teresa’s Academy as they consider playing at the next level. Coach Nelson is dedicated to the improvement of each and every athlete and looks forward to building a permanent home for the Irish Cup at St. Teresa's Academy.
Coach Nelson is an accomplished certified financial planner, and resides at Lake of the Forest with his wife, Janice, and their daughter, Jillian.

ABBY DUETHMAN WINS HYVEE SCHOLARSHIP---
Senior Abby Duethman was one of two outstanding scholar-athletes who were each awarded $1000 scholarships recently in the annual HYVEE SHOOTOUT. All schools in the Shootout provided nominees, and a panel of judges sponsoring the Shootout chose the two winners. CONGRATULATIONS ABBY!!!
