What?
This training program is suited for all athletes at St. Teresa’s Academy, whether in a fall
sport or spring sport, whether in golf or soccer.
How?
The conditioning and injury-prevention program will focus on four key areas during each
90-minute session:
Flexibility: stretching and strengthening muscles for workout
Strength: rather than using the weight-room, we will use resistance lifting that
will focus on core, arm, back and leg strength
Speed/Leaping: fast-reaction muscles used for sprinting and leaping
Endurance: creating aerobic conditioning
Why?
•
Injury-free: STA athletes who participate in the summer conditioning avoid many
injuries during their athletic seasons. Those who condition during the summer report
back that their knees and ankles stayed strong throughout the season.
•
Winning seasons: Sports teams are at their best when athletes and coaches can focus
on team and skill development during the season, rather than athletic conditioning.
When?
An 7-week program:
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
Monday, June 7 through Thursday, July 22
From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Where?
The Goppert Center at St. Teresa’s Academy
Who?
•
All STA students who are interested in working hard and staying in shape are
encouraged
•
Organized by Mr. Eric Thomas, teacher and former STA basketball coach.
•
Fellow coaches include Ms. Katie Dolan, JV volleyball coach, and Mrs. Stacie
O’Rear, sports and fitness teacher
