It's party time! The Stars relaxed and celebrated Christmas with a party, kindly hosted by Mrs. Blake! It was great fun, and quite interesting, as you can see by the pics...

question...what possibly could Brenna (in the backround) be doing?

The Stars kicked off 2009 by facing off against Kansas rival St. Thomas Aquinas. The Stars showed a little rust against Aquinas giving too many offensive boards away, but held their own putting up 13 points in the first half. Aquinas had 13 as well, until a last second, very long shot sent the game into halftime with the Stars down, 13-16. After regrouping and digging deep the Stars came out with tenacious defense and better rebounding in the 3rd quarter holding Aquinas to only 2 points. The Stars were still a little rusty offensively, but managed to put up 9 points of their own. However, the 4th quarter went to Aquinas with complete board dominance, especially offensively giving themselves multiple attempts, and ultimately putting 15 more points on the scoreboard. The Stars struggled with the increase in pressure defensively, but managed to build some momentum in the end, but the time ran out, as the Stars lost, 30-34. Katelyn Ehrnman led all scorers with 14 points, hitting one from downtown in the 4th quarter as the Stars tried to come back. Jennifer Blake put up 7 points, hitting a 3 pointer early in the game. Emily Holt contributed with 4 points. Katelyn Ehrnman continued to hit the boards, getting 8 rebounds and joining her was Mary LeRoy with 6. (Ehrnman 14, Blake 7, Holt 4, LeRoy 2, Beirne 2, Barrett 1)

The Stars licked their Aquinas wounds and came out fighting against O’Hara on Wednesday afternoon. Led by Katelyn Ehrnman’s dribble penetration and 5 points, the Stars put up 11 points to O’Hara’s 4 in just the first quarter! O’Hara would not back down and came out stronger in the 2nd, outscoring the Stars 8-6, making the score 17-12 going into the half with the Stars having a slight advantage. Determined to take the game completely away from O’Hara, the Stars unleashed an offensive strike in the 3rd quarter almost doubling their entire first half score, putting 16 points on the board. Leading the charge were Jennifer Blake and Emily Holt who both put up 6 points in the 3rd. Emily Holt finding her sweet spot behind the arc, putting two 3’s on the board, while Jennifer Blake showed strength in knocking down her own 3 pointer while getting fouled and accepting the 4 point play, knocking one down from the charity stripe. The 4th quarter showed a concerted team effort as nearly every Star put points on the board. Meg Nulton led the charge in the 4th, putting up 4 points of her own. Mary Cate Feuerborn added 2 to her 5 point game total. Lauren Barrett proved that size does not matter as she dominated the boards, tearing down 6 rebounds. The Stars faced off against cross state rival, Visitation Academy, who traveled from St. Louis to play all three STA teams on Saturday. It was a tough battle as both teams fought hard in each and every quarter, matching point for point with ties and lead changes every basket. It was a 7-7 game at the end of the first quarter with Jennifer Blake leading the Stars with 5 points. At the end of the half, the Stars were down by 1, with a score of 14-15. Jennifer Blake led all scorers in the first half, putting up 8 points, including one from behind the arc. Jennifer went down hard in the 3rd quarter, though, spraining her ankle, out for the rest of the game. However, the Stars stood strong without their leading scorer and stayed in the game. Katelyn Ehrnman stepped it up offensively scoring 10 points in the 4th quarter. The Stars had a 3 point lead with just minutes left in the game, but Visitation would not go away. After a couple of inopportune turnovers by the Stars, Visitation was able to convert and take a 1 point lead. Katie Beirne was able to penetrate baseline to take a tough shot, but as the refs swallowed their whistles, she was unable to get the call. The Stars made a tough defensive stop once again, giving themselves the opportunity to squeak out a shot, but time expired before they were able to get one off and the Stars fell short, losing to Visitation 28-29. Leading all scorers was Katelyn Ehrnman with 14 points, followed by Jennifer Blake who put up 8 in one half of play. Emily Holt and Mary LeRoy dominated on the boards each leading with 7 rebounds. As a little girl grows up in this area, some questions come to her attention many times throughout grade school, ”Will you go to Sion or will you go to St. Teresa’s Academy? Will you be a Star or will you be a Storm? Will black and gold permeate your wardrobe or purple and white?" One thing is known for sure, once you make that decision, there is no going back and you are a Star or a Storm for life and the competition begins between you and those that choose differently…
It is the BIGGEST rival in our school’s history; the Sion Storm came into our gym for what always promises to be an extremely competitive game against the Stars. Both teams came out strong defensively in the first quarter, the Stars putting up just 2 more points than the Storm, with Mary LeRoy leading the way with 4 points. The Stars began to pull away in the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Storm once again, and going into halftime with a 5 point lead, 15-10. The Stars remained steady in the 3rd quarter continuing their scoring with Katie Beirne and Meg Nulton taking offensive control, each putting up 4 points. The Stars led by 8 going into the 4th, but the Storm only grew in strength as they fought to comeback, hitting a three pointer and hitting 4 for 5 from the free throw line. However, the Stars stayed strong, taking care of the ball, holding onto the lead, and winning 31-28. Leading all scorers was Katie Beirne, who put up 9 points to go with her all around stats of 3 assists, 3 steals and 4 rebounds! Mary LeRoy and Katelyn Erhnman both dominated on the boards each pulling down 6. Mary LeRoy led in steals, getting 5 takeaways. It was a Star studded effort as 5 Stars tied for second leading scorer, each with 4 points – Mary Cate Feuerborn, Lauren Barrett, Mary LeRoy, Meg Nulton, and Katelyn Ehrnman.
